🌍 Free Tools to Help You Learn
You can learn English in any language. These free tools help you read any lesson, hear the words, and practice every day. They work with every level of this website. Everything here is free.
📱 First: read this website in your language
Your web browser can change this whole page into your language. This is the most useful tool. Try it now.
On a computer (Chrome or Edge)
- Right-click on the page (press the right mouse button).
- Click "Translate to…".
- Choose your language. 🎉
You can also click the small translate icon 🔤 on the right side of the address bar at the top.
On a phone (Android — Chrome)
- Tap the three dots ⋮ at the top right.
- Tap Translate.
- Choose your language.
On an iPhone (Safari)
- Tap the aA button in the address bar.
- Tap Translate to… and choose your language.
💡 Good to know
You can turn Translate off the same way. Try reading a little in English first. Then translate the hard parts. This helps you learn faster.
🔤 Translate a word or a sentence
Use Google Translate. It is free. Go to translate.google.com, or get the Google Translate app on your phone.
- Choose English on one side and your language on the other side.
- Type a word or a sentence.
- See it in the other language right away.
It works both ways. You can write in your language and see the English. For example: Hello, how are you? Where is the station?
📷 Use your camera
The Google Translate app can read English with your camera.
- Open the app and tap Camera.
- Point your phone at English words — a sign, a menu, or a book.
- See the words in your language on the screen. 📖
🗣️ Hear how to say the words
Hearing English is very important. Listen, then say it again with your own voice.
- In this course: tap the 🔊 button next to a word or sentence to hear it.
- Use the 🎧 Audio button at the bottom right. You can choose a voice and make it slower.
- In Google Translate: tap the speaker 🔊 to hear a word.
Try these words now with the 🔊 button: hello thank you good morning
🎙️ Speak and check your voice
You can check if your English sounds clear.
- In Google Translate, tap the microphone 🎤. Say a word. The app writes what it hears. If it is right, your voice was clear!
- Your phone keyboard also has a microphone. You can speak instead of type.
🤖 Practice with AI
A free AI helper (like ChatGPT) is a kind, patient teacher. You can ask it in simple words:
- "Please explain this in easy English."
- "Give me three simple sentences with the word family."
- "Let's practice a short hello conversation."
The ESL Hub has a whole set of pages to help you use AI. See Learning English with AI.
📺 Watch videos with subtitles
On YouTube, you can turn on words at the bottom of the video.
- Tap the CC button to see the English words (subtitles).
- In Settings ⚙️, tap Subtitles, then Auto-translate, and choose your language.
Start with short, slow videos for beginners. Listen and read at the same time.
✅ A simple plan for every lesson
- Open a lesson. Read the New Words box first.
- Read slowly. Translate the parts you do not understand.
- Tap the 🔊 buttons. Listen and say the words out loud.
- Do the exercises and the project.
- Write in your journal. A little every day is best. 🌱
